With news arriving just a few days ago of Rocket League's impending community trick-shot builder, the December update is getting another piece of similar functionality with official Steam Workshop support.
There's still no solid date in mind when it comes to the update, but by bringing Steam Workshop support to the Mac, PC and SteamOS builds of the popular car-bashing sports game, it'll soon be far easier to share and play around in custom maps with your friends.
Maps designed by the modding community will likely not be eligible for online matchmaking scenarios, but friends with the same map installed on their systems will be able to toy around in custom games.
While never widely known to the public, Rocket League mods have been around for some time, though they would require the user to tweak around with their game files. Those with the knowledge to build custom maps will likely have to stick to their current methods of messing around with the standardized Unreal Engine 3 UDK as no official modding tools are arriving with the update.
Whenever the December update arrives, it should become much easier to download and install custom maps to play with your friends. There should be no more complicated file splicing for those wanting a little more variety in their Rocket League rotation. You can read the full announcement here.
