Assuming maintenance hasn't been extended, the newest major expansion for Square Enix's huge MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is now live, bringing a new wave of 'x World First Clear' forum posts and Twitter announcements back into the spotlight.
Patch 3.4 will, essentially, usher in the start of the main story leading into the expansion expected to be announced next month in Las Vegas. The content update sees the end of the 3-tier raid scenario 'Alexander' with 'The Creator' bringing 4 new bosses in both story and 'Savage' difficulty alongside another side-story monstrosity with Sophia - the second of the Waring Triad pulled from Final Fantasy VI following Sephirot in patch 3.2. Of course, there's 2 new dungeons for players to run for a new kind of currency used to buy the newest gear.
Other than the standard addition of story and raid content, player apartment buildings have been added giving 9000 additional players per server the opportunity to own their own personalized space in each of the 3 player housing distracts. While the apartments mimic the spaces seen in Grand Company housing being their own instanced rooms, the ground floor lobby of each building is shared with its residents.
The randomly generated dungeon 'Palace of the Dead' added in the last patch has also spread to 100 floors with another 100 coming in patch 3.45 soon.
Minor additions include a multitude of new crafting recipes, class changes (especially to Astrologian) aquariums for fishermen to show off their catches and the addition of 'Wonderous Tails' - a log book tasking players with completing rotating, older content for additional bonuses.
The patch is live now through a small 1.5GB update. Full patch notes can be viewed here. There's a handy trailer down below.
