Origin’s not all that bad. I mean, sure, I’d prefer to have all my digital games on Steam, but for couple times a year I want to play a Sims game or have a few Battlefield rounds, running the Origin client is basically painless. A new update slowly rolling out for beta users is giving the service a new look, and it seems that all its changes are for the better.
The game library has gotten a lot cleaner, with each title providing easy access to stuff like game options, achievements, and extra content. The store has been reorganized as well, providing quicker access to current, popular titles and a whole bunch of sort options.

As PC Gamer and the fine folks at NeoGAF (who we also thank for the images) note, the new version bears more than a passing resemblance to GOG’s Galaxy client, and as they also mention, that’s not really a bad thing. It’s a much better design than Origin’s cluttered interface, so if it works, steal it.
In theory, you can try out the new client for yourself by opting into beta participation via Origin’s options menu, but it seems that EA is rolling out the beta update slowly. No better Origin for me just yet. It may be annoying to run a separate client for certain games, but while Steam’s great, their total monopoly on PC games distribution isn’t great for the ultimate health of the industry.
