You may not know Ian Milham’s name, but you certainly know the games he worked on. He was the art director for the first two Dead Space titles, and the creative director on Battlefield: Hardline. And now, he’s the game director across the Tomb Raider franchise at Crystal Dynamics. (Quick, does this mean Lara faces cops or necromorphs next?)
Crystal Dynamics has been the caretaker of the Tomb Raider franchise since 2006’s Legend, and their 2013 reboot of the franchise proved to be a successful reimagining of the franchise. Milham said “Adventure games have always been my first love. When the opportunity came to join Crystal Dynamics, I had to jump on it.”
When do we get to add the next Tomb Raider to our list of upcoming PC games?
“This is the home of Lara Croft, who is a legend in action-adventure gaming and a pillar of the industry. I’ve admired Crystal’s work for a while now, as they continue to deliver top notch narrative and spectacle, coupled with deep systems and player choice. I’m very excited about where the studio is headed and I’m eager to be a part of it.”
Milham has been in the industry for over two decades, contributing to projects at Microsoft, Crave, Lucasarts, and EA over the years. We look forward to seeing how his influence shapes the Tomb Raider titles to come, especially after the recent, excellent Rise of the Tomb Raider.
