It's been a long road for Crusader Kings II - and likely much longer for the development team. With today marking its fifth anniversary, what better time to talk about Secret Religious Cults?
Valentine's Day is, arguable, the best time to spend the day waging war across neighboring countries. Adding to that, the game's head director has decided it's also the right time to talk about Cults with the newest Developer Diary.
Speaking of how the team has just wrapped up immediate development on the upcoming Monks and Mystics expansion, it's time to talk a little about one of its main features. Though most of the 'Societies' features will come through paid access to the newest expansion, free players will be gaining access to the Secret Religious Cults without buying into another add-on.
Most of the non-heretic religions have a hidden little 'Secret Cult' somewhere within their ranks. These problematic citizens usually avoid detection by feigning interest in another religion. With you as a ruler, you can opt to join these groups in the hopes of climbing the ranks and eventually converting. Missions and powers gained through cultist activity can enable the opportunity to stage a revolt as time goes by.
If you're looking for the further details, you'll have to head over to the development blog. It isn't a long read, but current players will likely be able to make a little more sense from the screenshots.
