In an interview with Shiny man David Perry, Valve’s own co-founder Newell has said the best way to show your stuff to future employers is to mod.
Cranking out quality mods comes up against ”fewer institutional barriers” he explained, and lets you show off just how creative you can be. It can be better than work experience.
”Whether you use Civilization or Warcraft III or Hammer doesn’t matter as much as that you are building and shipping stuff to customers, getting their feedback, and then iterating your work,” says Newell.
Slaving over mod development ”is better in a lot of ways of both honing your skills and demonstrating your talent to a potential employer than work experience.”
