With Toshiba’s death knell decision to no longer support the HD-DVD format it was only a matter of time before the dream came crashing down and Blu-Ray declared the victor of this eras Betamax-VHS war. Microsoft has now confirmed they will no longer produce the HD-DVD player add-on for the Xbox360, but will still continue to support and honour all warranties of the current models.
”As a result of recent decisions made by Toshiba, Hollywood studios, and retailers, Microsoft plans to withdraw from HD DVD. Xbox will no longer manufacture new HD DVD players for the Xbox 360, but we will continue to provide standard product and warranty support for all Xbox 360 HD DVD Players in the market.”
Prices for the now endangered add-on have all ready fallen, with HD-DVD media expected to tumbled in value as well.
