Since Sierra effectively imploded when Activision and Blizzard got together, Atari decided to pick up the pieces of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
Originally it was intended as a remake of Butcher Bay but Atari has decided to make it an entirely new experience with ”intense online multiplayer combat”, a first for Riddick.
The videogame will sport all new characters as players take Riddick through ”a brand new full-length campaign” that’s promised to be accompanied by ”a storm of malevolence and horror”. Sounds good to me.
”It’s very exciting to have Assault on Dark Athena as part of Atari’s 2009 publishing line-up,” said Phil Harrison.
”The first game in the series was a landmark in action gaming and the outstanding team at Starbreeze are creating a feature-packed follow-up which will delight fans and new players alike.” Starbreeze developed The Darkness for consoles, so they enjoy the darker side of storytelling.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is being released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC sometime next spring.
