Valve has said the ratings decision on an edited Left 4 Dead 2 from the OFLC is practically here, we could be hearing something about it later today. It’s a backup plan.
Gabe Newell would much rather see the full unedited version get through the appeals process, they don’t want to ”ship this second version.” It’s there to ensure a release to fans.
The appeals decision won’t get back until October 22nd, leaving it a little too close for comfort seeing as how the game is pegged for a November 17th release. That’s why Valve has submitted an Australian-cut edition of the infected sequel through the usual channels.
”I thought Left 4 Dead 2 would get the same treatment as Left 4 Dead 1,” admitted Newell, reports Kotaku AU. ”So I was a little surprised.” Should the original version fail to get a secured release in time then a free update for PC gamers would enable everything later.
”Our goal is not to ship this second version,” he added. This edited version is supposedly ”fully compliant with the guidelines” for an MA15+ certificate. Good luck Aussie survivalists!
