Over 2.5 million copies of the Xbox 360 exclusive Halo 3: ODST have been sold in two weeks, generating more than $125 million in sales. Not bad for an ‘expansion pack’.
The entire Halo franchise has now cleared 27 million copies sold worldwide, and with Halo: Reach due next year things won’t be slowing down, it’s a ”chronological prequel” to Halo 1.
”With the Halo video games, game developer Bungie created a space-opera mythology for the Microsoft Xbox game systems to rival Star Wars,” reports USA Today.
They also detail how Microsoft are planning to blitz fans with even more Halo goodies; more videogames, comics, videos (those anime movies), novels and even action figures.
Things don’t look over for the series favourite dude, Master Chief: ”I think that (his) fate, Cortana’s fate and the identity of that giant, dark planet at the ending (on the game’s hardest skill level) — that’s a spoiler — are probably big mysteries that would be irritating if they were just cliffhangers,” revealed Frank O’Connor, creative director at 343 Industries.
Is Halo the new Star Wars? Would you like it to be, videogamer?
