Janco Partners’ Mike Hickey can see a very bright future for Infinity Ward’s sequel, he believes it’ll be ”the largest video game release” for 2009 no sweat.
Its first day should see $338m in sales, with estimated worldwide sales of 7.8m copies by the end of the week, with 4.6m of that going within the very first 24 hours. Not bad, eh?
”We anticipate the sell through to consumers of 11.1 million unites for an estimated retail value of $803 million and sell-in approximating 12.4 million units, for an approximated sales value of $666 million (assuming demand is 90 per cent of supply),” said Hickey, reports MCV.
Modern Warfare 2 should achieve a retail value of over $569 million in its first week, Activision accountants have likely just messed in their trousers, and who could blame them.
Will you be a part of that first day $338m, or the first week’s $569m?
