Microsoft’s motion technology Kinect has surpassed sales expectations in Japan, which is predominantly averse to anything to do with the Xbox 360.
It has managed to clear 26k units amid the first few days on sale in the country, which is proportional to the install base. Xbox 360 sales hit 7083.
Compared to the US and European markets - yes - these figures are absolutely dreadful and would spell mega doom for the Xbox business, but Japan has always been difficult for Microsoft to penetrate and these numbers aren’t half bad.
Kinect beat individual DS SKUs but was slightly behind that of Nintendo Wii and PS3, and certainly behind PSP sales figures standing at 96,601 sales for the week. In the US Kinect pushed over 1 million units within its first 10 days on sale.
