Doubt has been cast on Sony’s claim it can fight the problems with software updates. This quick hack of the firmware seemingly confirms those fears. Hacker ‘KaKaRoToKs’ broke the firmware within hours of its posting.
Custom firmware spoofs the current mandatory PS3 firmware version so it can keep running with complete access to the PlayStation Network. This has led to hacks of multiplayer games which is giving studios a major concern for the future.
