Markus “Notch” Persson has announced his new project, called Mars Effect, and has even created a website for it, which can be found here.
According to Persson, ”After several weeks of trying to come up with a good name for the game, we finally decided not to learn from previous experiences and pick a name that’s already kind of in use by a huge existing franchise. After playing around with names like ‘Elight,’ ‘Wind Commander,’ and ‘Steve Online,’ we finally settled on the very catchy name ‘Mars Effect’.”
Persson did not reveal whether his desire over a week ago to create a “Firefly”-style game was an elaborate set-up for this April Fool’s Joke.
If Persson really wanted to be subversive, he could have created a fake site for a roleplaying game called “Scrolls of the Elders” or something of the sort, just to tweak Bethesda’s lawyers, whom he’d recently settled with over the Scrolls fiasco.
