Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price announced during this PAX Prime keynote speech his new IP, Fuse, which is, according to speculation, borne from the developer’s Electronic Arts project Overstrike.
The official site, www.fusegame.com, has a countdown timer that is ticking down to the 13th September.
Price also had much to say about game development. For instance, he noted that when Insomniac had jam sessions to brainstorm for ideas, ”it was a complete waste of time. We weren’t asking the right question. What does our game do better than any other game?”
He also stressed that too many developers try too much to compensate for deficiencies in gameplay with art and/or story.
”That’s dangerous! That’s putting off the inevitable,” Price warned, ”All the fun stuff – story, character, visual – has to be subservient to fun. And once you figure out what’s fun you have to prove it every single day.”
Finally, he stated developers shouldn’t try to please everyone, and just aim at a single market.
”The creation process should be an intensely personal experience,” Price noted. ”You are sharing your interests and experiences and putting yourself in everything you make.”
