Sony raising $1.9bn through convertible bonds to pay debts, buy Gaikai

Sony Corporation is adding around ¥150 billion ($1.9 billion) to their coffers through convertible bonds, which will then be used to pay off debts, invest in Olympus Corp and buy cloud-based Gaikai.

They also are ramping up their investment in CMOS image sensors. New CEO Kazuo Hirai has pledged that Sony would refocus around gaming, digital imaging, and mobile devices.

The corporate giant continues to shift focus as the TV business shrinks. Sony is set to become the largest shareholder in Olympus Corp to develop medical equipment as the market grows.
