Markus “Notch” Persson is getting ready to start developing a major new game this coming Summer, and expressed in an interview one concept he’d love to tackle: a hardcore space sim in the mold of the science fiction television series Firefly.
In the interview, he stated, ”I want the space game that’s more like Firefly. I want to run around on my ship and have to put out a fire. Like, oh crap, the cooling system failed, I have to put out the fire here.”
How would he develop such a game? First, he’d work on the base, then bring in more and more people to polish it.
”The goal is to do it the same way I did Minecraft,” he described, ”Just basically have me work on it for a while, and then we’ll add people as needed, and try to charge as soon as possible, because it’s probably going to be open ended sandbox game as well, so it doesn’t need to be completed before people can play it.”
If someone steals his idea, he admits he wouldn’t care - he just wants to play that sort of game. According to Persson, that’s the entire reason he wants to develop a game like that: he wants to play it.
