Are you a control freak? Then good news for you as developer Kamai Media is letting us obsess over the little things as they work on Sonder, a third-person action title with no single character to control.
Not only that but we can rewind the timeline and make different decisions to see their outcomes. Kamai hint a danger threatens a space station and her crew, and what happens is on us.
“The choices you make determine who, if anyone, survives the adventure that transpires in the game,” teases Kamai Media on their website. So many decisions.
It’s the changing of perspectives that Kamai want to explore with Sonder, and how each person you advocate for in the game suddenly becomes the ‘most important’ there is and so how will that affect decision making? If you know something about another character that explains why they seem selfish, do you accommodate that or resist it?
Time can be wound back at any moment to let us tinker with something, perhaps in the hope of choosing a path we feel is less crappy. Although the studio aren’t going to make things easy for us and state clearly that there are no ‘right or wrong’ decisions, no ‘best or worst’ ending.
”The goal of the game is to illustrate that judgment is heavily influenced by perspective- acts that seem random, irrational, malicious or even generous or noble, may register differently when you are put in the position where you have to choose to make them,” explains Kamai. “Ultimately, it is a question whether any action, in itself, is intrinsically good or bad or is it simply perceived as one or the other.”
The hope is that Sonder will even support multiplayer letting others make critical decisions and thus have a profound impact of the dynamic gameplay. Currently there’s no release schedule with Sonder in pre-alpha. Check out the rather short and sweet teaser trailer for Sonder below. Visit the official website to learn more.
