The truth maybe that Guerrilla was unaware of the full 8GB as Sony kept it secret from third-parties until the official announcement, commented Just Add Water’s Stewart Gilray.
Guerrilla Games have dissected their PS4 demo for fans to take a peek at. They reveal where all those resources were being funnelled through the machine.
The studio details that 3072MB of the PlayStation 4’s 8GB were dedicated to all video resources for the Killzone demo, with 1,536MB set aside for system resources. An additional 128MB was shared between them. Of the reserved 3072MB video memory, 1,321MB was spent on non-streaming textures.
The PS4 demo had 8200 physical objects, 500 particle systems and reflections in real-time.
”We were told it was 4GB originally,” Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray told VideoGamer.com, ”and we first knew it had 8GBs when Mark said at the event’s stage, ‘And it has 8GB of memory.’ We’d had kits at that point for a good while.”
