The extra time the studio is taking is for adding a ”final layer of polish” to meet expectations. The announcement of the delay was found only on the Ubisoft forums.
Freedom Cry is a single player add-on that’s set 15 years after Black Flag and stars former crew mate Adewale as a fully trained assassin leading a revolt against slavers.
”The PC version of the Freedom Cry DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag will release in the coming days. We are taking the extra time to apply a final layer of polish to ensure that it meets the expectations of our fans,” stated Ubisoft.
Ubisoft’s North American president Laurent Detoc recently gave an interview about making the decision to delay titles for polish or overhauling at the publisher’s many studios, like Watch Dogs. ”I think one of the fascinating things about this industry is that you can go from genius to idiot in an extremely short time frame,” he said.
”These are some of those moments, where you’re riding sky high on Watch Dogs or Rayman, and then suddenly you have to break it to the outside world, and sometimes even convince the inside people. Not everybody agrees.”
“You have to say, ‘this is in the best interest of the product, to do this,’ because at the end of the day we’re going to be able to do this extra fine tuning.” PC gamers are no stranger to Ubisoft delaying Assassin’s Creed.
