Former Epic Games big wig Cliff Bleszinski is now in the restaurant business, which surprised those who thought his announcement was about a new game. Actually he does have something in the works.
Bleszinski says he’d like to take a Kickstarter approach with his next idea, although wants to back it up with a ”safety net of providing outside financing.” He hopes he can build the game and his team.
With the rise in DayZ, and Minecraft before that, the whole pay-for-early-access business model has become more attractive and has earned a lot of trust.
Bleszinski says would should ”expect some news hopefully in the next 4-6 weeks” on his venture into securing capital for his new game project, which is likely to feature both crowd-funding and traditional methods. ”I would like to go directly to the consumer if possible, although with the safety net of providing outside financing,” he said.
”I think Kickstarter is a beautiful, romantic thing. I think that for every success story there’s ten failures, sadly, on Kickstarter. But I think it’s possible with the success of Day Z, to have the concept of pay-for-alpha or pay-for-early-access, and help the community forge and shape your game. Build the company while you build the game while you build the community, at the same time.”
Cliff Bleszinski has released very small glimpses at his next idea but nothing solid yet.
