Now that’s what I call a Beta update. Developer Amplitude Studios has announced that it’s releasing a massive new update for 4X fantasy game Endless Legend tomorrow on Steam Early Access.
It adds a bunch of new goodies, including two new factions, The Ardent Mages and The Roving Clans, multiplayer mode, ships and harbours, an enhanced battle system and better diplomacy options. Not bad.
Endless Legend has been in Alpha version since April 2014, and the new Beta update is a result of both Amplitude’s own ideas and ongoing feedback from the fan community.
“The Beta update encapsulates several months of dedicated work expanding key gameplay components that provide sophistication and depth to the game,” said Romain de Waubert, lead designer at Amplitude Studios, in a press release today. “The addition of two new factions provides players with new approaches and abilities through the game, and with improvements such as enhanced diplomacy and hireable privateers, gamers of all skill levels can now experience the depth, breadth, and complexity of our creation.”
There are also two new videos from the studio detailing those new factions. The Roving Clans are nomadic traders who control the game’s economy, while The Ardent Mages look like total bastards, frankly, sort of sado-masochistic fanatics.
Here’s the full list of features you’ll find in the Beta version:
-
Introducing two new playable major factions: the Ardent Mages and the Roving Clans
-
Full Multiplayer mode with up to six players out of eight in the final game
-
Enhanced Battle system (Battle Pace / City Militia / Moral Boost / Upgraded Deployment)
-
Ships and Harbors: you can now go explore and colonize the world beyond the ocean!
-
Addition of Roads and Trade Routes
-
Improved Diplomacy: new Diplomatic Treaties, AI diplomatic behavior, Counter Proposal option
-
Addition of Privateers: Mercenaries bought in the marketplace who can attack anyone without revealing exactly whose side they are on…
Endless Legend is available for 25% off on Steam currently, though publishers Iceberg say that discount will go down to just 10% as the game gets closer to a full release.
