Cher Wang, the chairwoman of Chinese tech manufacturer HTC, has told the BBC that she hopes a Half-life video game will be released for her company’s virtual-reality headset.
HTC is teaming up with the classic franchise’s creator Valve to put its VR hardware on the market, so it’s not quite as outlandish a hope as it initially sounds. Still, as we all know, any Half-Life news must be accompanied by the caveat, ”probably not going to happen.”
When asked by a BBC reporter about a potential Half-Life game on the Vive, Wang responded; ”We are co-operating with Half-life, and I think… I hope, you know, it will be on it.”
Not quite a Half-Life 3 announcement I know, but the series’ brand of first-person exploration and combat combined with Valve’s ability to create a deep, believable universe could surely make a great VR game.
The Vive was revealed at GDC over the weekend, and is Valve and HTC’s attempt to compete with Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Sony’s Morpheus. it’s expected out before the end of the year.
