Developer Microids is heading back to the wilds of Russia for Syberia 3, the latest installment in a series that began in 2002 and hasn’t seen a new entry since 2004.
Syberia 3 has been in development for a year and a half, and will be the first game in the series to be rendered fully in 3D. Microids has released the first few screenshots, and says that the game should be out this year.
The Syberia series follows the travels of American lawyer and protagonist Kate Walker through a remote land in Russia known as ‘Syberia’, where all manner of prehistoric animals scamper about oblivious to the fact that they should be extinct. In the third entry Walker has been taken in by the travelling Youkol people, and the game at least partly takes place in their market camps.
Other details are fairly thin on the ground, though Microids has released information about two new characters in the game, Youkol shaman Ayawaska and craftsman Steiner, which you can read up on here. What with this venerable series re-emerging and the long awaited return of The Longest Journey in last year’s Dreamfall Chapters, it’s a good time to be a fan of cult adventure games. Any such titles you miss that you’d like to see make a similiar return?
