Re-Logic and Engine Software, co-creators of sandbox build-em-up Terraria, have announced a new game set in the same universe, Terraria: Otherworld.
Might sound like a sequel, but apparently it’s not. Instead it’s a kind of spin-off, which mixes familiar sandbox gameplay with role-playing and strategy elements.
“Set in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe,” writes the Re-Logic Team, “Terraria: Otherworld places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world – now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself – to its original splendor. Along with a rag-tag band of survivors, will you be able to successfully harness the power of an array of weaponry, magic, defenses, and even the world itself to thwart the designs of this unseen evil?”
Exactly how those new gameplay mechanics will work isn’t clear, but the gameplay trailer above shows off some familiar side-scrolling exploration, alongside some fancy new weather effects.
Terraria: Otherworld is in development for PC and Mac. Re-Logic and Engine Software will be showing off the game at GDC next month, so we’ll find out more there.
