It’s not just the Skywind guys that are busy creating a huge total conversion for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, there’s also a massive fan project to recreate 2006’s Oblivion in the game’s Creation engine.
In fact, the ‘Skyblivion’ team has just released a fairly colossal 45-minute gameplay trailer, showing a lot of riding around on a horse, through some admittedly very pretty environments.
It seems like the enemy AI isn’t quite ready to go yet, as everyone our hero encounters sort of awkwardly stands there while he pummels them into pieces with his dual daggers, but the amount of work put into recreating Cyrodiil’s sweeping grasslands and Springtime forests is really impressive.
“This is version 0.2, it’s an early version and as such there are bugs. Main visible bugs include lack of navmesh (NPC’s don’t know where they can walk) and draw distance,” reads the video’s description. The lack of navmesh is the biggest stumbling block so far.
“Navmesh needs to be done if this is ever going to be in a playable state with quests,” writes a member of the mod team in the Youtube comments section. ”This is a huge task considering it has to be done by hand and Cyrodiil is huge. A lot of progress has been made towards a public 0.3 release (I’m not sure when this will be released)”
