Rising Thunder, the free-to-play fighting game, tried to take the execution barrier out of the genre to allow new players to get right into the strategy and mind games. The open alpha had been sitting my hard drive for a long time while I waited for the chance to get to it, but now that chance may never come.
Radiant Entertainment was acquired by Riot, the folks behind League of Legends. While Radiant’s Minecraft-like Stonehearth will continue development, Rising Thunder’s alpha is finally closing on March 18, and it doesn’t sound like it’s coming back.
The official press release says ”the Rising Thunder team will start work on a new game that we’re incredibly excited about.” As well-received as the game was by the community, it doesn’t seem like a smart move to just abandon that work. My guess? The smart money’s on the team taking that work and applying it to a fighter with the League license.
