Rise of the Tomb Raider has bested Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Pillars of Eternity and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in claiming the Writer’s Guild of America’s Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing Award.
It comes as sort of an upset in that the Writer’s Guild loves Assassin’s Creed (and Uncharted), as past winners show:
- Dead Head Fred (2008)
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2009)
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2010)
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (2011)
- Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2012)
- Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation (2013)
- The Last of Us: Left Behind (2014)
Interestingly, Rise of the Tomb Raider is the first game to not be on a Sony platform in that year, including the immortal PSP game Dead Head Fred.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was released on 28 January 2016 on PC, and earned a 9.0/10 score in GameWatcher’s review.
