While fans got their first chance to see Prey in action at QuakeCon earlier this month, that footage didn’t officially make it out of the convention. That’s a shame, because up to this point, the only thing we really knew about Prey is that it has nothing to do with the original game. Thankfully, some of that gameplay footage was officially released today, giving us a glimpse at the upcoming shooter.
The brief selection of footage is strongly reminiscent of BioShock, right down to the font choices. More material to the game, it seems you’ll do a lot of exploring, looting corpses for ammo and resources, and make use of a variety of strange weapons and abilities to take down alien enemies.
Those weapons include a GLOO Cannon, which freezes enemies in a sticky substance, and an Inferno ability, which sets them ablaze with a blast of fire. There’s also the delightful Mimic Matter ability, which is used here to transform into a coffee cup and roll through a small opening. The possibilities for that skill sound super fun.
The brief trailer also shows a bit of zero-gravity exploration outside of the ruined space station. It all looks pretty cool, and we’re sure to see more as the game approaches its release in 2017.
