The Mass Effect creators, Bioware, has made a conscious decision to not let players continue on from their Mass Effect 3 saves in their latest game, Mass Effect: Andromeda. Bioware explained their decision in an interview with Eurogamer, who confirmed that none of the decisions made in the previous Mass Effect games will have any impact on Andromeda.
“We acknowledged it in the endings of Mass Effect 3 and I think that’s where we want to leave it for now,” said Aaryon Flynn, BioWare studio boss. “We want this to be a new story and it would be very hard to say it’s a new story but also that you need to understand how [the past trilogy] ended.”
Of course, Mass Effect fans would be disappointed if Andromeda completely ignores everything that happened over the five-year series. Unsurprisingly, Creative Director Mac Walters had an answer to that. Despite Andromeda taking place after Mass Effect 3, you need to consider how long it takes to travel between galaxies, said Walters.
”We’ve done it in such a way that allows all of those decisions you made to remain intact in the canon of the universe, but also allows a new story to begin,” Flynn added.
Mass Effect: Andromeda has been teased at EA’s last three E3 press conferences, but teasers can only reveal so much about the game. We hope to hear more information about the game closer to its release.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is scheduled to release sometime in early 2017 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
