It looks like the new World War 1 setting has paid off for EA DICE as their latest Battlefield franchisee has outsold the last two battlefield games combined. Ukie’s GFK Chart-Track reveals the sales figures show that the new game has outsold Battlefield 4 and Hardline combined in just a few short weeks.
This is big news for EA DICE and may mean that they would be more likely to stray for the classic modern military shooter setting in the future. Hopefully, it could be the financial leverage required for DICE to try some interesting time periods for the franchise and maybe even a little innovation from their formulaic FPS design.
While the sale figures are large, it still did not manage to become the biggest selling debut week shooter of the year. Ukie’s GFK Chart-Track reveals the sales units generated come in just below Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s The Division debut week earlier this year. Which makes the third person shooters popularity all the more impressive.
EA DICE have also just released the first post-launch patch this week for Battlefield 1 and are looking to improve the games balance. The world war 1 shooter has been somewhat sniper heavy of late, with players complaining about the effectiveness and range of the scout class in the game.
