It feels like we've been talking about Deck13's 'The Surge' for months - and that's because we have. It's closer to release than ever, but there's still more to share.
We've seen plenty of in-engine footage and special CGI cutscenes demonstrating everything the The Surge offers and stands for over the last year, but it's time to take a step back. To the place where the magic happens.
Leading into its May 16 release, developer Deck13 have offered up a behind-the-scenes video showcasing how the team brought the game's reaction-based combat system to life within its sci-fi 'robots will kill us all' setting. It's the kind of footage you'd typically see included with a more expensive 'deluxe' or 'collector's edition' package - only you don't have the satisfaction of having it be included on a fancy USB stick by today's standards.
The almost 7-minute long video is peppered with equal bits developer insight and fresh new in-engine footage with a healthy dose of pre-revealed content thrown in for good measure. They're mixed so you're seeing bits of both for a certain degree of context. Those artist tablets were certainly put to good use.
If you're coming up to a lunch break at work, give it a watch. Learn how the developers overcame certain combat scenarios and 1-up them. That's what they want.
