Rocket League, the clever and intensely popular racing-football game from Psyonix, has been out for four years - and it's still just as popular as ever. If you haven't tried it out yet, what's wrong with you? It's lots of fun.
There's loads of reasons why you should give Rocket League a go - in fact, we can think of eight. So here's 8 reasons to play Rocket League right now.
1. It's highly addictive
When you're just starting to play the game, it might be difficult for you to understand the controls and gameplay (not really, see next point). But nonetheless, once you get even a bit familiar with the game, you’ll eventually get obsessed with increasing your skills at the game.
2. Simple to learn, anyone can play
It takes 2 minutes and a single one-off session to explain the basic concept and controls to anyone: it's football/soccer with cars. From there it's just driving a car and trying to hit the ball. Within a few minutes of starting you'll already think you're well able to compete.
3. Intense teamplay.
You can play 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 as you desire. When you play as a team, you'll need to consider playing both offense and defense, which adds further dynamics and tactics to the game. Also, this creates variety of potential strategies that your team can put into use while playing - or an enemy team can use against you!
4. Quick and fun matches
5 minutes is the average amount of time for a game of Rocket League. It means that you can squeeze a quick game in, even when you really don't have the time to, or you can hop from game to game for hours on end - with regular breaks should you need to take a pee or answer the door for a friend/delivery person/mad stranger. But they never feel rushed, and the pace of the game means you always feel like you have time to play your best. Plus, if the scores are level you'll go to sudden death overtime, which is the most intense thing imaginable.
5. Win tournaments and feel great inside
Once you've had time to sharpen your skills, it is time to consider joining a club. The benefits of being in a club is that you can always play together with your club and earn your rightful place high in the leaderboards. Once you do, you can then join tournaments and earn a lot of money just by aiming for victory while fighting other clubs.
6. Customize your experience
You can customize your car and the controls in the settings. These are some of the options available to customize your battle car: body, decal, paint finish, wheels, rocket boost, topper, antenna, trail, goal explosion, engine audio, player banner, title, and avatar border. From the options menu you can even determine settings such as camera angle and other things that suit to your gameplay. The selection of cars available is more than enough, and the best part is that there are no differences in terms of speed or contact area, which means no car has an advantage over another. Or you can just get a DLC Batmobile or Back to the Future DeLorean and have fun that way...
7. Cross-platform play.
That’s thanks to a recent update, which sees the title hopping on Sony's PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program. Rocket League already supported some degree of cross-platform matchmaking, but today, you can have players from both PC and console platforms in the same match. You can also join or host private matches with your friends across platforms right away. Support for cross-platform parties – which will let you and your friends team up against random players – will arrive a little later in the game’s next update for this year.
8. You can earn a lot of money by playing this game.
You can sell in-game items or currencies in online marketplace like Eldorado.gg. Surely the best reason of all?
