As the Epic Games Store nears its one year anniversary, publisher Paradox Interactive has revealed that it sees the competition brought by the newest distributor to be a positive thing for both players and publishers.
The sentiment was shared in the company’s latest financial report which tackles the release of colony sim Surviving the Aftermath, game that launched as an Epic Games Store exclusive during its early access period.
Paradox Distributor Competition
“Through the collaboration with Epic Games, we receive a guaranteed remuneration, an effect we see from the competition among the distributors that has increased over the past year.”, the report reads.
“We believe this competition will continue next year and benefit both players and game publishers.”, it continues.
The Epic Games Store has been the subject of many debates, especially caused by its aggressive pursuit of exclusivity deals and lack of features.
Nonetheless, one year later, the storefront has built a decently sized library and continues to draw titles, both in and outside of exclusivity deals, to itself, which does make it easier to understand Paradox’s statement.
Surviving the Aftermath is, currently, the only Epic Games Store exclusive in the Paradox camp and, even it, will launch on Steam and other platforms when it exits early access.
As for other projects, like Crusader Kings III, Paradox has gravitated more towards the Xbox Game Pass, at least for the time being.
