Square Enix has shed a little more light on the surprising announcement of Final Fantasy XIV, an online MMORPG set in a brand new world.
Races will be similar to the older Final Fantasy XI, but this new game takes many lessons learned from Blizzard’s World of Warcraft as Square expands on that in their own way; neat.
”FFXI will continue to be supported. There is another year of content planned. There are no plans in the near future to stop development on FFXI,” Square revealed during a Q&A session.
”As with WoW, we want to aim a bit for the casual user. However, we don’t want to make a copy of WoW. We believe we will have things that are unique and will stand out from that game.” For now they ”cannot talk about the battle system at this time.”
When Final Fantasy XIV launches it will be available in English, Japanese, German and French. They also confirm it will be arriving on PC along with a PS3 launch. As for Xbox 360, the dev team are ”considering all options at this time, including Microsoft hardware.”
Square hopes to launch the MMO to cross-region and even cross-platform servers, with no pricing having been decided upon yet. Game director Nobuaki Komoto and producer Hiromichi Tanaka were available at the Q&A for FFXIV.
