E3 2010 innovation "in short supply", floor dominated by "sequels"

Marc Cieslak, reporter for the BBC, has said how this year’s E3 was rather dry in the well when it came to raw innovation for the games industry.

He said there were ”literally thousands” of titles at E3 but many ”a bit mediocre.” Very hard to find any videogame gems among ”all of the dross”.

Cieslak declared ”innovation was in short supply” in the BBC technology program Click, saying E3 this year seemed more caring for “shooters and sequels.”

”There were literally thousands of new games on show at E3, adding, “unfortunately many of them are a bit mediocre,” said the reporter. Trying to find ”gaming greats amongst all of the dross” was “almost as difficult as navigating the mass hordes out on the show floor.”

Ouch. When the BBC of all places takes notice you haven’t churned out anything innovative you’d better pay attention because trouble is brewing. Do you agree that this year’s E3 was rather dry when it came to real surprise and wonder?
