The publisher should be ”more beloved” that it is given what they offer, says Hirshberg. Brands don’t belong to companies but consumers.
”I only have my perceptions as a outsider to go on. I think that Activision, based on the number of great gaming experiences they have delivered, should be a more beloved brand than you would think they are by reading the core-gaming blogosphere,” said soon-to-be Activision big cheese Eric Hirshberg, reports Kotaku.
”I think I will be helping to kind of find an equilibrium between that and the general tone of the public discourse,” he added. Hirshberg was the mind behind Sony’s Kevin Butler spoof adverts for PlayStation, which have proven wildly successful.
That doesn’t mean the same solution will be applied to Acti. ”Kevin Butler was the right solution for Sony,” he noted. ”In this day and age with such an engaged and passionate audience, the brand doesn’t belong to the company, it belongs to the consumers.”
Smart man talks smart sense. The problem with Bobby Kotick is that he admits he wants higher prices, subscription services and that he doesn’t actually play videogames. Running a games publisher as a pure corporate suit just doesn’t cut it anymore.
