The story follows Alma again and her offspring. It has ”divergent co-op” where each player can go off and do their own thing, or help each other.
It’s a kind of competitive or adversarial co-op but one where you can assist each other, despite having separate goals and agendas in the game. You control Point Man or Fettel, each a son of the twisted creature that is Alma.
Point Man is more the soldier type favouring big guns. Fettel is a ghost with physic powers and the ability to possess any enemy in the game. Developer Day 1 is putting in a cover system for Point Man to better duke it out with foes.
The game can be played as a purely singleplayer experience but Fettel will then only appear in cutscenes and not as some AI-controlled spook, wailing down corridors. F.E.A.R. 3 may also use something very similar to Valve’s Left 4 Dead Director system.
Full blown multiplayer is to be included also with competitive features, as well as a scoring system for games levels to encourage replays. Are Warner Bros and Day 1 Studios taking F.E.A.R. 3 in a direction that appeals to you, videogamer?
F.E.A.R. 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this fall.
