Sorry but strictly speaking that doesn’t fly in a democracy Mr Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor, as I doubt the argument that your voters were of ‘higher quality’ over the ‘sheer masses’ of an opponents will keep you in office come ballot counting.
”Classification ministers agreed at that meeting that further work needs to be done before a decision can be made, including ascertaining the views of the silent majority,” said O’Connor. ”It is not just the weight of numbers that need to be considered. It is also the strength of arguments on each side.”
Already an alliance of retailers, publishers, developers and gaming communities have been vocal in their backing for an R18+ rating and have gained a lot of traction thanks to Senator Michael Atkinson stepping down, now that he can’t veto the idea.
Let’s hope the Down Under politicans aren’t trying to subtely back peddle, screwing over the wishes of many. At least they haven’t gone the way of Middle East ‘tailoring’.
