Problem was half-way through they had to build their own engine, and translate all the game content over. Team ”literally” started from scratch.
”Too Human was an entirely different game when we first announced it,” Dyack told IncGamers. The original vision had nothing to do with Norse mythology at all, but some guy called John Franks who was hunting down his partner’s killer.
The developer wanted to keep the Too Human name but ”wanted to explore the humanity and technology we could use,” explained the boss. ”We liked the title and like where we were going with the game thematically.” It was made as an Xbox 360 exclusive.
It was the fault of ”litigation issues which I really can’t talk about” that forced Silicon Knights to abandon the game’s engine, with the team having to build their own from nothing and then migrate all the content over to it.
”I really don’t think people understand or know that this happened, we had to literally start from scratch when we were supposed to be halfway done,” noted Dyack. ”The game was finally reviewed as it were in development for 10 years.”
