This includes PlayStation Plus subscribers too it seems, who are ”very important” to Sony. A ”great deal of effort” has gone into this update - it’s worth it.
”…the guys at Cambridge put a great deal of effort into this update and, unlike the previous free updates, we will be charging a reasonable amount for the new features,” revealed PlayStation Network product manager James Thorpe
”Plus members are very important to us and we are looking into providing you guys extra value for PlayTV. Will keep you posted on this.”
”PlayTV Live Chat is an addition to an already great product. If you are not keen on the new features then you do not have to buy the update, therefore there is no reason not to recommend this to your friend, we are NOT charging people to watch TV”, he added.
The PlayTV update adds things like text-chat with friends while watching live TV on your PS3 console, a new guide so you can schedule recordings a week in advance, a Series Link to flag all future episodes in that series to be recorded, Facebook recommendations, Community Favourites and see what your friends are watching.
PlayTV is not all software as it requires an external device for the PS3 which provides a stream of free-to-air digital TV, letting you watch and record. It’s easily around £20.
