Singleplayer is also affected with just going through the game menus taking ”several minutes” for most. It’s advised to disconnect PS3 from the net.
Embarrassing? Yes. Predicted by the Mayans? Probably. Sony and Polyphony Digital is working double (triple?) time to scrape the egg of its face and boost the server numbers for Gran Turismo 5 as the entire game is apparently dependent on its net connection.

While a major game suffering server problems with multiplayer is no surprise these days, having the ‘offline’ portions seize up just the same is quite the problem. It connects to the net ”when starting the game and during the various screen displays in GT Mode”.
Currently Sony is advising you to disconnect the PlayStation 3 from the network so you can play in a ‘true’ offline mode of the game. The Gran Turismo 5 servers officially turned on Tuesday while the PS3 exclusive racer hit the shops yesterday.
