They’re already at the stage that BioWare’s Ray Mazuka will ”be hearing the pitch,” with only legal the last obstacle. Hopes for DRM-less free release.
”Wing commander Turns 20, I am hard at work seeing if we can dosbox and release it! Come on ea legal… Now is the time to shine!” twittered BioWare Mythic’s Paul Barnett.
”now have a dosbox’ed version of Wing Commander plus secret missions,” he later added, followed by: ”Tech guys removed the copy protection question from the Wing commander build!”
”Now having the Wing commander game data compared to our original source code, we need a clean bill of health at this stage! “
”Today we get data compare sign off for wing commander, dr Ray will be hearing the pitch, from there only legal can stop us!”
”My plan is wing commander one , drm free and security bypassed. For FREE ( fingers crossed)” is his latest twittering.
Wing Commander released on PC back in 1990 for MS-DOS and became an almost instant classic. Plenty of sequels spawned and there was even a full blown movie made of the videogame series - which didn’t entirely blow.
Here’s hoping Barnett gets his wish for it to be revived - and for it to be free!
