Sony Online Entertainment hacked, taken offline

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, Sony Online Entertainment has been taken offline due to - you guessed it - “external intrusion” .

In a brief statement on Station.com:

”Dear valued SOE Customers,

We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).”

This seems to indicate that the PlayStation Network intrusion was wider spread than Sony thought. The question now is if this is new or something they only noticed now two weeks later.
