It was publically derided as being ”bad for kids” said Fulop, and he sought a way to ‘repair’ the damage. It led to the ”cute and so adorable” Petz series.
”Friends of mine, my parents and my girlfriend, didn’t really get games,” said Rob Fulop. “All they knew was that a game that I had made was on TV, being talked about as being bad for kids.” The title was Night Trap, involving hidden cameras and attacks on women.
”And, you know, Captain Kangaroo came on TV and said, ‘This is bad for kids.’ It was horrible,” he continued. This drove him to seek out a game that was “so cute and so adorable that no one could ever, ever, ever say that.”
He quizzed ‘Santa’ and asked what kids were asking for the most which went on to inspire Fulop to design and create the Petz series which launched back in 1995. Currently it’s part of Ubisoft’s line-up portfolio.
