Turtle Rock Studios Is Partnering With Perfect World For

Though an incredibly in-depth business chat with GameIndustry.biz, Turtle Rock Studios - the group behind Left 4 Dead and Evolve - have revealed that they're working on a new co-op shooter. Announcing its development so soon after cutting support for Evolve's F2P shift shouldn't come as much of a surprise. If a company announced plans to abandon a game that had struggled in the past as both a full-price multiplayer shooter and in a F2P flavor with another publisher, you'd already think things were going south. Keeping quiet on your studio's future projects wouldn't help matters, either.

Spearheading the apparent zombie-genre movement and ushering in a standard of co-op gameplay not seen before Left 4 Dead first arrived, Turtle Rock Studios has gained a reputation as a company focused solely on dishing out solid co-operative first-person-shooters - so, naturally, that's what they're focusing on yet again.

They may not have managed to recapture the Left 4 Dead audience with Evolve's mix of All-Vs-One multiplayer, but they're happy to try again with a new IP. Partnering with publisher 'Perfect World', the team hopes to build their new shooter as a F2P title from the start, rather than having the issue of transitioning a $60 finished product to a game with tacked-on additional value. We likely won't be seeing this one until at least 2018, however. But with a couple of VR titles in the works too, Turtle Rock Studios is keeping itself busy.
