‘83’s release date is one to add to your radar if you’re a fan of large-scale multiplayer first-person shooters set during the Cold War era. Below, we break down everything known so far about the ‘83 release window, supported platforms, gameplay details, trailers, and the latest updates from the developers.
Published and developed by Blue Dot Games and powered by Unreal Engine 5, ‘83 puts teamplay and communication at the forefront while promising a spiritual successor to the Rising Storm series that “is mindful of your time.”

‘83 has locked in its Steam Early Access release date to April 23, 2026.

‘83 Gameplay
Gameplay-wise, ‘83 is all about large-scale warfare, pitting two teams of 40 players against each other.
It aims to deliver a tactical shooter that “skips the dull parts commonly present in realistic games,” retaining their lethality but throwing us into the action sooner.
Its matches “are only 30-40 minutes long,” and securing the key objectives needed to claim victory requires communication and teamwork.
Its predefined classes serve different roles on the battlefield, allowing some degree of loadout customization, while the “large selection of weapons and other gadgets” present are faithful to their real-life counterparts.
“Barrels and suppressors overheat when rapid firing,” according to the developer. Deploying your machine gun turns it into a much more dangerous firearm, while “bullets don’t magically teleport in between magazines when you reload a half-empty one.”
By the sound of it, ‘83 aims to balance fun with realism in a way that removes some of the tedium and frustration that inevitably pop up while playing other similar titles.
‘83 Story
Since it’s a multiplayer first-person shooter, ‘83 will likely not go all-in on story. That being said, the context for its conflict revolves around the Cold War not quite living up to its name.
“It’s 1983. The tensions between NATO and the USSR have reached their breaking point, and the Cold War has quickly turned into an all-out conflict across Europe,” reads a blurb on its Steam page. “Take the side of NATO or Warsaw Pact forces in an authentic, realistic, yet accessible online first person tactical shooter.”
