A standalone spin-off of the hit strategy game Northgard is coming. Northgard Battlegrounds mixes city-building, RTS, auto-battler combat, and asynchronous PvP.
The game, which is said to be launching into early access, is being developed by the acclaimed team at Funday Games, the studio behind the hit Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. No release date has been set for Northgard Battlegrounds yet, but this new take on the Northgard world and real-time strategy has a release window following its announcement.

Northgard Battlegrounds Gameplay
Northgard Battlegrounds is described as a “city-building auto-battler set in the Viking world of Northgard, where every building you place shapes your clan’s fate.” Players must develop their villages (in both single-player and online modes), claim the Gods’ blessings, and send warbands to battle against their enemies.
After choosing one of the renowned clans of Northgard, you “build and expand your settlement, shape your strategy, harness the Gods’ favor, and prepare your warband for the battles to come.” Battles are asynchronous and play out depending on your town build, chosen blessings, and overall army builds. This means those who find RTS micromanaging daunting will have nothing to fear here. It’s all about working out cunning strategies and adapting over time to the enemy.
Northgard Battlegrounds Price, Platforms & Pre-Orders
Since Northgard Battlegrounds won’t be launching until later this year, no price tag has been set yet and pre-orders aren’t open, but expect a reasonable price during its early access period. Shiro Unlimited has already confirmed the price tag will increase as the game nears its 1.0 launch and gains more features and content.
At the time of writing, Northgard Battlegrounds has only confirmed an early access release on PC via Steam.
