Pirate survival game Windrose has launched in Early Access on PC, but will it be heading to PS5 or Xbox? GameWatcher goes hunting for that greatest of treasures: information.
Kraken Express’ online PvE Pirate survival and crafting adventure may well remind you of Black Flag, Sea of Thieves, or Skull & Bones on the surface, but this is a bit of a different beast to those pirate games, as players join forces to survive, craft, and build in an alternative Age of Piracy.
The game features vast procedurally-generated biomes to explore, plunder, and build on, whether that be solo or with a group online. And when you’re not doing that, there’s all manner of nefarious forces to battle in your quest to gain revenge on Blackbeard.
The developer is naturally honing the game on PC right now, but what about the future? Will the full release of Windrose find its way to the shores of consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?
Windrose PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Console Release Status
At present, PC is Kraken Express’ sole focus, but it clearly has plans to release on consoles. On the game’s website, it says to ‘‘keep an eye on official channels’’ regarding any future platform announcements.
A spokesperson for Kraken Express has told GameSpot that the team is ‘‘enthusiastic about eventually coming to consoles, but are focused on 1.0 launch first.’’
So you can see console releases on the horizon, but Kraken Express needs to get Windrose shipshape first. There’s no confirmation there of what platforms the game would be coming to, but it seems like a safe bet that it would at least be on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Maybe we’ll get a full treasure chest of modern platforms and have a Switch 2 release as well.
We’ll update this article as soon as we know more about Windrose’s console version future.
In the meantime, if you want a pirate fix on consoles, the aforementioned Sea of Thieves is on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Of course, backwards compatibility means you can still play Assassin’s Creed Black Flag for solo pirating, but a current-gen remake looks to be on the way too.
