Despite announcing they will be trimming the fat and tightening the purse strings, EA will be backing ”long-term big winner” Dead Space.
Also staying in the good graces of management is the ”very strongly reviewed” Mirror’s Edge although sales have been lacking, but ”subsequent editions” will generate more.
”Dead Space looks like a long-term big winner for us,” proclaimed EA CEO John Riccitiello.
”Mirror’s Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed. That one’s gonna go forward–we’ll be looking at some issues around the design to make sure strong IP is married with strong business.”
”Many times, what happens with new IP is the first edition doesn’t generate the units that subsequent editions could generate,” he explained.
Mirror’s Edge offers a truly refreshing approach to first-person genre but some of the gameplay managed to upset the otherwise exceptional new IP.
